Privacy Policy

Educational Employees Credit Union has a strong commitment to protecting the privacy of member information.  The credit union collects non-public personal information about members primarily to establish and maintain account relationships and to provide members with quality financial services.

We do not share, sell, or trade member information with third parties for marketing purposes or in any other manner that requires us to give the member the ability to opt-in or opt-out of information sharing.

EECU will comply fully with information sharing restrictions and other requirements of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the California Financial Information Sharing Privacy Act.

Non-public personal information means information about members that we collect in the course of providing financial products or services to them.  It does not include information that is available from public sources, such as telephone directories or government records.

In this policy "you" refers to members.  "We" refers to Educational Employees Credit Union.


Information We Collect About You

The information we collect about you varies depending on the accounts and services you request and use. We collect non-public personal information of the types described below about you from the following sources:

  • From applications and other forms, we obtain information such as your name, address, Social Security Number, and income;
  • From your transactions with us, or with other companies that provide services to you on our behalf, or from your use of your ATM card, debit card, and credit card we obtain information such as your account number, the date, amount and time of the transaction, and other pertinent information;
  • From consumer reporting agencies, we obtain information such as your creditworthiness and credit history;
  • From employers and other financial institutions where you conduct transactions, we verify information you provide on applications and other forms;
  • From your visits to our website, we retain information you provide us during your transactions and information you send by e-mail.

Information We Disclose About You

We may disclose all the information we collect about you, as described above, as permitted or required by law. These disclosures of non-public personal information typically are made to:

  • Process transactions on your behalf;
  • Conduct the operations of our credit union;
  • Follow your instructions as you authorize;
  • Protect the security of your account or our financial records;
  • Comply with validly-issued legal processes and court orders;
  • Report credit and account experience information to consumer reporting agencies.

We do not disclose non-public personal information about former members, except as permitted or required by law.

We disclose information to service providers as permitted by law to provide our own services, such as to third-party vendors that print EECU account statements or process EECU plastic card transactions. Service providers sign agreements to safeguard the privacy of your information. If we work with joint marketing partners, we retain control of your information until you become a customer of the joint marketing partner by requesting their product or service. We do not share information with affiliates. Because we restrict access to your information, "opt-out" and "opt-in" rights that you may have heard about do not apply.

How We Protect Your Information

We restrict access to non-public personal information about you to those employees and service providers who need to know the information to provide you with products and services. Our staff, management, and volunteers are trained to maintain confidentiality and member privacy. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to safeguard your non-public personal information.

Internet Privacy Protection

This privacy policy also applies to our website at myeecu.org. At our website, you may apply for accounts and services and you may communicate with us via e-mail. Generally, e-mails are not secure. Therefore, we advise you not to include personally identifiable information such as your account number or Social Security Number in your e-mail. When you visit our website, you can access site information without revealing your personal identity.

Our website contains links to other websites. We cannot be responsible for the privacy practices or the content of linked websites and encourage you to read the privacy statement of linked websites to become acquainted with their specific privacy practices.

Children's Online Privacy

EECU is committed to protecting the online privacy of children.  We do not knowingly collect, maintain, or use personal information from children under the age of 13 through our web site.  Our site does have information about EECU Youth Club programs and it contains links to the CUVillage.com 4Kids site that provides child-oriented financial information, trivia, games and calculators.  We rely on the parents' involvement to assist children in using this portion of the site.  We are not responsible for the data collection and use practices of third parties to which an EECU website may link.

CUVillage.com will not ask for a child's name or e-mail address and does not have a chat room where other people can ask for personal information.  Their privacy policy is posted at http://educ_emp.kids.growingmembers.com.  Any site collecting information from children under the age of 13 must conform to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA).


Changes to This Policy

This replaces any previous privacy notice provided to you. We may change this policy at any time by providing you with proper notice as required by law.
